The Lighthouse School is pleased to announce that for the second consecutive year, six of its students have sat and passed the Level 1 City & Guild examinations.

The six students, Ashaunti Bodden, Cruz Evans, Shakia Scott, Trina Greenidge, Calum O’Brien and Dayana Powery each sat English (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics on 18 June 2019. They collectively achieved a total of five merits and two distinctions.

In his remarks, at an award ceremony in honour of the students, held at the Lighthouse School yesterday (Monday, 23 September), Temporary Minister of Education, David Wight commended the students for their success. “I wholeheartedly congratulate each of you for your bravery, discipline, determination and your accomplishment,” he said.  “I challenge your peers to see your success as an example that is worthy of emulation so that they too can someday experience the pride and satisfaction that you must now feel.”

The road to the students’ success was not an easy one and each child worked diligently under the guidance of their teacher, Ms Jenny Garratt, support staff Mrs Phillippa Miller and Mr Jacy Elliott and through the support of several educational stakeholders in order to get to this point.

“The crucial support provided by the Department of Education Services the Ministry of Education, as well as the ongoing close and collaborative relationship with CIFEC has allowed the smooth and successful transition of our students to this further level in their educational journeys,” Lighthouse School Acting Principal Janice Headley-Thorpe.

Five of the six students are currently enrolled in the further education programme at the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC).
