One Dog At A Time supporters, Heather Holt and Morgan Clifford Olley decided to run a unique fundraiser for their favourite dog charity on Sunday, 28th April!

Green thumbed Heather and awesome hairdresser and cook, Morgan, devised, publicised and grew a wide variety of native plants such as Aloe, Ackee, Sea Purse, Palms and Papaya to sell from their yard on South Sound.

As people browsed the wide array of flowering plants and shrubs available, Morgan lit up the barbie and created Snag Sambos; tasty sausages covered with spiced onions, wrapped in bread and banana leaves; a scrummy treat for humans and pooches alike! Heather said “I love gardening and I also love dogs! This is the first plant fundraiser I’ve held and it has proved to be really popular. Both our dogs are rescues, so we thought what a cool way to help other pooches!”

Heather was on hand to give advice and guidance to novice gardeners and raised over $400! Vice President for ODAAT, Caroline Johnston, whom attended the event said “It’s fantastic that Heather and Morgan have organised and run an event for us. Next time, I’ll be bringing some of my plants to sell too, as it’s been so well received. I thought we might even run out of products to sell!”

Currently One Dog at a Time have rescued and rehomed 40 dogs this year, and have numerous dogs from the pound to rescue too. “All our rescues are advertised via Facebook, so please like onedogatatime13 for updated photos and news of our rehomed dogs across the world.” Said Caroline Johnston.

If you would like to foster or adopt any of the One Dog dogs and puppies currently available, additional information can be found on Facebook as well as by emailing info@odaat.ky.

Alternatively, if you would like to run your own fundraiser in support of ODAAT, contact them directly on the above email so they can send a representative to help with the event.

Items, such as food, bowls, dog beds and other equipment are also warmly accepted. Caroline continued, “On Sunday, we had a phone call from one of our supporters regarding a disabled dog wheelchair; we were delighted to accept the donation and are hoping to try it in the near future. It’s items like this that can make the difference to an injured dog or one whom has had to have a leg amputated or had a serious operation.”
