Kirk Office donates 20 new Samsung Galaxy tablets to Special Olympics Cayman Islands (SOCI).
The tablets will be used for the organisation’s Healthy Athletes programme as well as tracking important data such as training participation. Healthy Athletes is a programme that provides health screenings across 6 disciplines: podiatry, vision, hearing, fitness, dental, and nutrition. The health screenings at the annual health fair are provided voluntarily and free of charge by local health care professionals with support from corporate entities and service clubs. Last year, 48 athletes received health screenings through the programme.
According to Dr. Sarah Cuff, SOCI Medical Director, the tablets will be hugely beneficial during health screenings, “We will no longer need to write down notes and then later enter them into the athlete database which not only creates efficiencies during the screenings, but when collating data for follow ups.”
Geoffrey Cuff, Managing Director, stated that “Kirk Office supports many community projects and none more deserving than Special Olympics. I first became aware of this program more than 20 years ago through family friends – the McDowalls. “Miss Penny” was an incredible lady who dedicated much of her time to this wonderful cause. I am personally delighted that my daughter Sarah and Jessica McDowall have continued to support the program.”
“At the last health screening, it amazed me to see how many medical professionals and volunteers gave their time on a Saturday afternoon to assist with testing athletes and recording the results into the athletes’ database. However, the latter was very time consuming and we chatted about ways this might be improved. Kirk Office provided a tablet to test and based on its success, Special Olympics determined how many were required for the health screenings and monitoring athletes’ training. We are really pleased today to make this donation and we hope this will further enhance this amazing program and assist our incredible athletes.”
Coaches will also be able to use the tablets to track training attendance, maintaining the athlete database in real time.
