I would like to thank Wes Howell and his staff at the Elections Office for their excellent work and dedication in verifying the signatures on the petition for a People’s Initiated Referendum on the cruise berthing project.

“It is clear that the threshold to trigger a referendum has been reached and the Elections Office will now be working to ensure that this is conducted in a fair, transparent and professional manner.

“This will be a historic moment for the Cayman Islands and a reflection of the mature democracy that has evolved here.

“I will continue to attach importance to ensuring good governance, fairness and the integrity of the referendum.
