The Department of Education Services (DES) announces an early start to standard registration for the 2023/2024 academic year.
"We will commence registration for the upcoming academic year on 1 March instead of our usual 1 April start date this year to provide families with placement confirmation prior to the summer break, giving them ample time to prepare for the new school year", DES Director, Mr. Mark Ray said.
The DES Director also noted that standard registration ends on 31 May, with late registration occurring from June 1-30.
All applications received after 30 June will be processed in the week commencing 7 August.
Further to the Education Law, 2016, any child who is five years old by 31 August 2023 MUST be enrolled in an approved educational programme or facility, including any child who is transferring to or withdrawing from a government school and those considering or deciding to pursue homeschooling.
The DES reminds Caymanians seeking to register children in Cayman Islands Government schools to submit a letter from Work Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) acknowledging the child's Right-to-be-Caymanian.
"For parents who are registering students that are listed as dependents, the documents showing proof of dependents must also be valid for the commencement of the academic year 2023/2024," Mr. Ray added.
Detailed student registration guidelines and forms are available on the DES website at https://schools.edu.ky/Pages/SchoolRegistration.aspx.
