It's that thrilling time of year when the salty sea air calls to us, and we're all summoned to join in the grand adventure that is Cayman's National Festival, Pirates Week. This year we set our sights on a treasure near and dear to our hearts—Cayman’s wondrous wildlife. 'Cayman Wildlife’ - the theme for this year’s festival will cast a spotlight on our precious local fauna. From 3- 26 November, the festival will unfold in waves of adventure across all three islands.
Landlubbers can partake in a treasure trove of events waiting to be discovered – from beach clean-ups to family fun days, food festivals, exciting treasure hunts, and Block Party Street Dances that will enliven the reveler spirit in anyone.
This year’s Pirates Week events will feature a change in winds as the beloved District Heritage Days are missing from the line-up – due to time and budget constraints, the organizers have had to make a tough call. But let not your spirits be dampened! As there is lots of celebration, camaraderie, and adventure to be had.
As we gear up for Pirates Week 2023, Hon. Minister Bernie Bush shared that “I would like to thank the Pirates Week Committee and the staff at the Ministry for working diligently to organize this cultural festival. For over 40 years, Pirates Week has united the community for an exciting array of activities and events; and I am pleased to see how this tradition has grown and endured over the many years.”
Pirates Week, now in its 46th year, is a fantasy festival that was started to bring visitors to our shores during the tourism slow season. Over the years, the festival has featured a mock pirate invasion, float parades, costume contests, a dazzling firework show, various sporting events and District Heritage Days.
