Tortuga Rum Company, in partnership with the Cayman Heart Fund, had the privilege of presenting the inaugural Robert Hamaty Heart of the Community Award at the annual Cayman Heart Fund Gala recently. The event, held on Friday 29th September at the Kimpton Seafire Resort, was a celebration of community, compassion, and the indomitable spirit of those who dedicate themselves to the betterment of our society.
The Robert Hamaty Heart of the Community Award is an annual award to commemorate his memory and lifelong unwavering support for the Cayman Heart Fund. The inaugural award was presented to Maureen Cubbon who joined the Cayman Heart Fund 10 years ago as a volunteer and went on to become a Board Member, Vice Chair, and now Chairwoman. She exemplifies these ideals, embodying the spirit of community, compassion, and heart health advocacy.
Maureen has been a stalwart figure in the Cayman Heart Fund's efforts for over a decade. Wellness through food and nutrition has been her central focus at the non-profit. The charity holds strong to continue their long-standing initiatives such as free community health screenings, AED donations, and providing access to critical care and diagnostic support to those who need it the most.
Tortuga Rum Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Eugene Nolan, commended Ms. Cubbon for the well-deserved award.

Upon receiving the award, Maureen Cubbon expressed her gratitude.

Maureen's visionary leadership as a founding member of the National Health Task Force for Children’s Health played a pivotal role in setting the national food policy for children's health.
Beyond her contributions to health initiatives, Maureen is a culinary force to be reckoned with. Her culinary journey has seen her take first place in the 2013 Food & Wine Cayman Cookout Amateur Chef Competition, and she continues to a be culinary ambassador, sharing her expertise through dynamic cooking classes and programs for corporate clients and aspiring chefs, as well as championing the cause of healthy, flavorful cuisine.
Ms. Cubbon's influence extends far beyond the kitchen. As the Cayman Islands Ambassador for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Program, and as Lead Instructor for the Seed2Plate afterschool program in partnership with the YMCA, she empowers children with the knowledge of where their food comes from and imparts fundamental cooking skills through hands-on learning.
