Just before 5PM yesterday, 28 August, a 23-year-old man of Bodden Town attended the Cayman Islands Detention Centre in relation to a collision and altercation he had been involved in earlier the same day. He was subsequently also arrested by the police on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm (ammunition) and attempted murder in relation to the same incident.
Following his arrest, the man became aggressive and assaulted the officers. Reasonable force was used to subdue the man, who sustained minor injuries as a result. He was taken to the hospital for treatment for those injuries as well as injuries sustained from the collision. While at the hospital being treated for his injuries, the Bodden Town man attempted to escape police custody.
He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting police, disorderly conduct in a police station and attempts to escape lawful custody.
He remains in custody pending further investigation.
