Just before 2:20 PM on Sunday 23 February, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to Seven Mile Beach in the vicinity of Lime Tree Bay where it was reported that there was a person in distress on the beach.
A man appeared to have been swimming at the beach when he was discovered to have been unconscious in the water. He was removed from the water by a member of the public, who was then assisted by other members of the public in carrying out first aid until the ambulance arrived.
The man was transported to the hospital by ambulance and was later pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.
The man, age 72, was a visitor from the US.
