Numerical Weather Models are suggesting that a broad area of low pressure is likely to form over the southwestern Caribbean Sea over the next few days. These models conclude that environmental conditions appear favorable for additional development of this
system, and a tropical depression could form late this week. The system is anticipated to begin moving northeastward across the western and central portions of the Caribbean Sea by this weekend.
The current projected path, of this potential system, suggest that the Cayman Islands are NOT likely to be directly impacted; however, the Cayman Islands National Weather Service is monitoring the development of this system and will provide advance notice if the projection changes. As it stands now the Cayman Islands will continue to experience cloudy rainy conditions through Sunday the 19th of November 2023. During that period Cayman can expect winds to be northwest 10 to 15 knots from Friday morning, waves are expected to 3 to 5 feet from the northwest, which may lead to choppy conditions along the west and north coasts. Rainfall totals of around 2.00 to 4.00 inches is expected between Wednesday to Monday next week. This may lead to flooding of low-lying areas and all residents in these areas should take the necessary precautions.
Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rains over portions of the Caribbean coast of Central America and the Greater Antilles towards to latter portions of this week. Interests in Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic should monitor the progress of this system.
