The 2023 Year 6 summer school programme, organised by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education Services (DES) in conjunction with primary schools will take place in Cayman Brac 31 July to 11 August. The two-week programme, which also ran in Grand Cayman, ended on Friday.
The programme is aimed at providing additional intense support in Mathematics and English for those students working towards age-related expectations. It is anticipated that through engaging and interactive learning experiences, students' academic growth will continue during the summer break.
In commenting on the catch-up initiative, Department of Education Services Director Mark Ray noted, “The summer school programme demonstrates how the Ministry of Education, the Department of Education Services, educators, and parents are dedicated to the ongoing academic success of our students”.
In addition to targeting academic skills in Mathematics and English, the programme is also providing students with the opportunities to extend learning throughout the community with weekly field trips and a daily science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) challenge. Through the group STEM activities, it is expected that students will have the opportunity to develop essential interpersonal skills, such as communication, collaboration and leadership.
