Youth Parliamentarians received praise for their performances, hard work, involvement and engagement in this year’s Youth Parliament.
At a reception held at Grand Old House on Saturday evening, 29 May 2021, each participant received a plaque, a certificate of participation and, as a memento, a copy of a group photograph taken on the occasion by Government Information Services.
Top participant for the Government bench at the Youth Parliament held in the House of Parliament earlier in the day was Reon Porter, who served as the Deputy Speaker while Leah Robinson, who served as Leader of the Opposition and who could not be present at the reception, was named the top Opposition bench participant.
Also receiving special mentions were Andrew McLaughlin Jr. from the Opposition and Keira Bodden from the Government.
Presenting the certificates and mementos to the participants were Speaker, Hon. McKeeva Bush, Deputy Premier Hon. Chris Saunders and Minister for Health and Wellness Hon. Sabrina Turner as well as MP, Ms Barbara Conolly, who headed the Youth Parliament Committee.
Clerk of the Parliament Mrs. Zena Merren-Chin also thanked committee members Minister for Home Affairs, Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Bernie Bush; MP Mr. David Wight; and former Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Alva Suckoo for their contributions.
Additionally, she announced appreciation for the contributions of law firm Harneys, the chief sponsor of the event, Radio Cayman and Government Information Services as well as to the parents for helping the participants in their involvement. She also recognised Ms Jenae Whittaker, past Youth Parliamentarian, for helping the students in their preparations.
The Clerk noted that unable to attend as a participant was Matthew Haughton since he had to take an examination.
